High Five Anniversary

Wow, five years. Rex and I have been married for FIVE years. For some, that may not seem like a big deal but with everything we have been through it was definitely a milestone in our life together.

On the vigil of our significant anniversary, we launched this very blog. We had planned a weekend staycation in the beautiful San Juan Islands, where we spent our honeymoon. We decided ahead of time that we would be unplugged for the weekend so we could just focus on each other.

This is a glimpse into our weekend getaway:

On Friday, our actual anniversary, we started our day by getting new tires for our trip.

Before we hit the road, we headed to daily Mass. Got a tear-jerking blessing from a beloved priest.

BLESSINGS

After getting settled in our condo rental, we treated ourselves to a fine dinning restaurant.

Early Saturday morning, we headed south on the island and walked around the historic American Camp.

Then stopped at Cattle Point Lighthouse.

We ate breakfast at this cute place called Cynthia’s.

On our way to the ferry, we totally saw the gal Samantha, from the documentary Blackfish. We were starstruck and didn’t get a picture.

We then took the ferry to Orcas Island, since we hadn’t been there before and to see Mt. Constitution. Our plan was to hike it but since I wasn’t feeling well, we decided to drive to the top. So, we hiked up in our car. That counts, right?!

After our ‘hike,’ we walked around town and found this incredible, local creamery. So we had to stop and enjoy.

Sunday Mass is what got us going on the last day of our trip. I love visiting churches.

Then we headed north on the island and had lunch in Roche Harbor.

BRUNCH

After stuffing our faces, we headed to the British Camp to hike Mt. Young even though there was a storm coming in.

On a clear day, you can see the Olympic Mountains

Before heading back into town, we stopped by Lime Kiln State Park in hopes to see some orcas. The rain kept us from waiting around too long. We were wet, cold and disappointed.

Before catching our ferry back to the main land, we stopped at another local creamery called Yo, Friday Harbor. They feature ice cream from Lopez Island.

We had an incredible weekend – a high five kind of weekend. Thank you, dear readers, for your love, encouragement, and prayers.

Happy anniversary, my love.
